Weird Things that I Photograph #1: Beauty Products I Love ♥

Admittedly, I really enjoy photographing some strange things, so you can probably expect to see many of these kinds of posts in the future. If it wasn't already obvious, one of those strange things happens to be bath, body and beauty products. LUSH Cosmetics are my favorite because of how bright, colorful and fabulous their products are, but I also have a soft spot for Bath and Body Works. Especially when it comes to their fall and winter scents. Yum!

I must not be that strange, though, or at least not alone in my strangeness. Whenever I post these kinds of photos to tumblr, not only do they usually get a good number of reblogs, but they often get 'borrowed' as well. I'm constantly stumbling across them on other blogs, and places like Pinterest or WeHeartIt.

Pretty crazy, huh?

I'd love to hear about any weird things that you enjoy photographing!
PS: Happy almost friday!

Read My Lips: Loose Tea Macros

So, I'm still getting the hang of this macro filter thing, but it's been a lot of fun to play with. Today I decided to take a few test-shots using my loose tea collection and these are the results. I need (a lot) more practice, but I have to say that loose tea always looks so damn delicious to me in photographs! The more sprinkles and chocolate the better! ♥

Frugal Photography: Macro Ring

After waiting for what felt like forever, my 10+ Macro Ring finally arrived in the mail today! This is basically just a magnifying filter that screws onto the lens that you already have. I bought mine on eBay here for around 7$ (including shipping), but you can purchase entire sets of them -- with different magnification strengths -- for under $15 if you shop around.

I haven't had the chance to take it outside yet (flowers and bees and spring macros!!!), but I did go ahead and take a couple of test shots inside and I'm already pleased with the results.

If you have any frugal photography recommendations, I'd love to hear them! ♥

Saturday Shares: So what if it's Sunday? :P

1). Ever since Jump from Paper came out with their fabulously designed 2D bags, I've been keeping my eye out for other brands and styles. This adorable little Domo bag is definitely one that caught my eye. You can purchase them, and a variety of other designs, here.

2). Another 2D-style bag that I stumbled upon was this one. I'm really loving all of the awesome photography-themed accessories that I've been seeing everywhere lately, and this bag is definitely one that I wouldn't mind owning some day. You can purchase these here in a couple of different colors, and they have some other designs as well.

3). Finding these Alice in Wonderland themed Lalaloopsy dolls made my day! I own a couple of full-size Lalaloopsys thanks to thrifting, but these mini fairytale themed dolls are the cutest ones I've seen yet!

4). As a kid who grew up in the 90s, these melting iPhone 4/4s cases from SwitchEasy are right up my alley. They bring me back to the days of Goosebumps, YTV, and Uh Oh! The pink and green combo is my favorite, but they come in a bunch of really fantastic colors.

5).
It's occurred to me recently that having a wallet case for my phone might be the way to go. It would mean that I'd have less to carry around, less to keep organized, and less to lose, especially when I head to an event or go out dancing. A lot of the ones I've seen have been pretty run of the mill, but this one is a little bit different. You can find it on Amazon.

6). This Mystical Unicorn dress by Hell Bunny makes me immensely happy. Purple unicorn, cupcakes, stars and skulls?! Hell to the yes! And I absolutely love the cut and style, too. I think that all of their dresses are pretty fantastic, but they really seem to go above and beyond with their unicorn patterns.

I've had a really busy couple of days. Between preparing for my finals, dashing around to appointments and spending some much-needed social time with fabulous people, my dance card has been pretty full. My school year is finally wrapping up and I can't wait until exams are over! The first thing on my to-do list is some major clothing organization and spring cleaning. As unexciting as all of that sounds, I can't wait!

I hope that you've all had a lovely weekend. xo

Fabulous eBay Finds #1: Foxes and Fishbones

eBay Finds #1

I'll be the first one to admit it: I'm an eBay addict.

The bargain hunter in me loves the thrill of finding these delightful little things, especially when it's something that I probably wouldn't have been able to buy otherwise. As a full time student, and a self-employed gal, it's not always reasonable or practical for me to shell out $100 for every new bag, or $30 for every new phone case. I love supporting companies that make fabulous (and local!) products, but I also have to pick and choose where (and how) I spend my money wisely.

That's why eBay can be so much fun, I think -- it's easy to find a piece or two that I like without breaking the bank. =)

Have you found anything fabulous lately? If so, I'd love to hear about it!

(Mis)adventure Monday: Thrifty Photo Fail

The Nitty-Gritty

Polka-Dot Shirt: Thrifted.
T-Shirt: Street Wear Society T from Sirens
Skirt: Thrifted ♥
Socks: Claire's
Shoes: Sling-Back Ballet Flats from Crocs (Unpictured)

I take a lot of self-portraits.

I do it partially because I enjoy the challenge, but also because I'm always available to model for myself. It's not that I don't enjoy shooting other people, but I'm often spontaneous in my creative urges, so it's not always easy -- or practical -- to find people who are available on such short notice (understandably so!).

Sometimes I wind up with photos that I'm pretty happy with, but other times it turns into a frustrating mess and I end up with photos that I'm completely unsatisfied with. As you might have guessed, that's what happened when I decided to attempt to self-shoot an indoor Thrifty Thursday last week. Ick.

Regardless, this blog was never meant to only be about posting the images that I'm proud of -- it's also about posting some of the images that I've struggled with, and learning from my mistakes (and failures) as I continue on my photo-journey.

Bath-Cocktail #1

The Nitty-Gritty

The Carrot Bubble Bar by LUSH
Lemongrass Bath Bomb by Pampered Damsel
Back for Breakfast Shower Gel by LUSH

The verdict: citrus-y goodness! The scent was really delicious and uplifting! It made me crave the scents of summer, freshly peeled oranges and lemonade. My only complaint about this one was that it wasn't very colorful (which is why I didn't bother to take any photos of the water).
